Our History
The Beaded Moose is owned and operated (with the help of a wonderful staff) by Dora Lee Petry. The store has been open since August of 2006.
In June of 2005, Dora and her sister Rose visited a fiber and bead shop in Vermont. They spent four hours there that day. Their first bead shop experience! The shop was beehive busy with women buying or beading at an open worktable.
Dora and Rose went back the next day and spent another five hours there. Dora looked at her sister and said, "They don't have a bead shop in Bangor, Maine." Rose said, "Why don't you open your own shop?" Dora thought for a moment and said, "I will!"
Dora then spent the next ten months doing the homework and research into opening the bead shop, and with the help of family and friends, The Beaded Moose was opened three months after that on August 1, 2006. Not having been an avid beader before opening the shop, Dora, who has years of sales and business experience and the support of her husband Scott, has become a creative, inspiring presence in the shop and beads alongside her customers when she has a chance.
